So I preordered this five months ago waaay back in August 2011 and it’s about to be released in just under six weeks time. Then this morning checking igoogle Kotaku feed; ‘Surprise Surprise, Mass Effect 3 Requires Origin, Won’t Launch On Steam’.

Pause ten seconds.

Storm of expletives.

Ok this shouldn’t really surprise me especially after the release of BF3 but seriously what the @#?! EA? What the fuck is this? Round 2 of EA vs Valve?

This isn’t even about DRM anymore; it’s about money. Well Steam > Origin any day.

I’d rather Steam for DRM then fucking Origin; given EA’s history there’s no bloody way I’m trusting them over Steam. For a while there I was thinking that the Evil Empire of EA was slowly reforming to become the not so evil empire. Well this puts the last nail in the coffin of that pathway, especially after this ‘Bioware Victory’ branding shit. More corporate chicanery on EA’s part.

Can’t those idiots every play anything straight?

Not impressed EA – if you’re going to copy Steam then do it right without all this clumsy heavy handed stupidity.

Just stick with publishing EA and stay the hell out of digital content delivery. You pretty much suck at everything else.

Yeah this is a pretty incoherent post —> I’m still raging over this. Still this isn’t going to stop me from cancelling my preorder though any other game less awesome I’d have likely taken that route.

Oh yeah and this from Razer’s Facebook (I pretty much share the stance of the people at Razer):

  1. a) It wasn’t going to launch on Steam anyway if you had a retail copy

    b) Origin is fine. They’ve come a fair way since the days of EA Link.

    • I still rage. Because it’s EA. Often I don’t think I need a better reason. Because it’s EA. Irrational hate I know. But hey it’s EA.
